The need for cameras

I know all the arguments about privacy and stuff, but after 22 years in education in every position from coach, teacher, assistant principal,  and principal, I believe there should be video cameras in every classroom, locker room and any other place that children interact with adults in school.

We don’t have any problem having cameras in the hallways and cafeterias in case students “act up”, but we have yet to go to the next step of putting them in the classroom.  Just think of the advantages; you could share all good teaching techniques and exceptional lessons with others; you would have video for parent conferences to show how students behave at school; adults and students that know they are being video taped will monitor their actions a bit more; and finally, it would provide any “evidence” that might be necessary when we get into the he said/she said arguments.

That is awful and this sort of thing is going on all over the world. The abuse of the vulnerable 😦 with human nature the way it is i don’t think this will ever stop. Abusers will always find a way to abuse!
Initially i agreed with the cameras but when i gave it some thought i hesitated.
I am not sure about the cameras as i feel the video footage could be manipulated by the schools/residences etc. I also feel that it would affect the good teachers and also pupils knowing that every little action was being monitored. I think it will teach the youngsters not to trust establishment, peers and teachers and they in turn will pass this on until you become a society that is always looking over your shoulder in every situation, trusting no one.
I think when a country has surveillance cameras just about everywhere then there is something seriously wrong with the system.
I am sorry i dont have the answers except that parents and carers should be more like this father and be constantly on the alert for any changes in behaviour. So many parents these days take no intrest in what their children do, say of feel outside the home. I think parents need to be more responsible!
